The Centre on Sunday notified the appointment of 10 additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as permanent judges. However, this will not change the actual strength of the High Court which is functioning with 45 judges ndash; 40 short of its sanctioned strength of 85.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Justice, the additional judges made permanent are Justices Suvir Sehgal, Alka Sarin, Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, Ashok Kumar Verma, Sant Prakash, Meenakshi I Mehta, Karamjit Singh, Vivek Puri, Archana Puri and Rajesh Bhardwaj.
The Supreme Court Collegium, at its meeting on October 7, had approved the appointment of the additional judges as permanent judges. — TNS
