Amritsar, August 6

Ten meritorious girl students from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall Road, Amritsar, have been selected to witness the live launch of Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) satellite at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

The Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, which works for the welfare of marginalised sections, is sponsoring their trip. The Trust has extended financial help to the tune of Rs 2 lakh to the school to buy air tickets for these girls and the teachers accompanying them as well as for other expenses, including board and lodging. Dr SP Singh Oberoi, Chairman, Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, said that he came to know that these girls had been selected to witness the launch, but were in dire need of funds for the journey.

“The selected girls belong to modest families. The Trust came to know that they were looking for a sponsor as they do not have the requisite funds for the trip. So, we have decided to sponsor their visit, which would go a long way in giving wings to their dreams and inspiring them to always aim high to make their country proud,” he said.

Mandeep Kaur, Principal, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall Road, has thanked the Sarbat Da Bhala Trust for its help. “Out of the sanctioned amount, Rs 1.37 lakhs have been expended on their air fare, while other expenses of the trip would be met with the balance amount,” she said.
