In more trouble for the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab, seven more unemployed have joined the hunger strike for jobs in Punjab Police in front of the Chief Minister’s residence here while three girls had started their fast on Thursday.
The protesters have procured bottles of insecticides and announced to consume it if government failed to fulfil their demand for jobs in Punjab Police as they have already cleared all mandatory tests.
Under the banner of ‘Punjab police 2016 waiting and 2017 verification union’, they have been protesting for the past many months, but neither the present AAP government nor previous Congress government paid any heed towards their demand.
“We have cleared all mandatory tests in 2016 and verification was done in 2017. Thousands of posts of constables are vacant in Punjab Police, but government is not allowing us to join without any valid reasons. We have decided to consume insecticide, if concern authorities failed to fulfil our demand,” said Jagdeep Singh, president of the union.
Earlier also they had held a protest atop a water tank here but after assurances, they ended it. As authorities failed to fulfil their demand, now they have again started their protest near CM residence and have been sitting here for the past around 38 days.
“On Thursday, three girls including Manjit Kaur, Bimla Bai and Hardeep Kaur had started fast unto death while today seven more boys have joined them. If anything happens to us, Punjab government would be solely responsible for it,” said the protesters.
