10-yr jail for ex-sarpanch, aide in drugs case

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Harjit Singh on Monday convicted Sukhwinder Singh, former sarpanch of Lakhana village under the jurisdiction of Valtoha police station, and his accomplice Twinklejit Singh of Chhota Haripura, Islamabad, in an NDPS case.

The court sent them to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the accused.

Inspector Inderdeep Singh said the duo was held by the counter intelligence wing with 1-kg heroin and a pistol near Amritsar railway station on January 3, 2017.

Inderdeep said following a tip-off, they nabbed the duo and during their search, the police recovered 500-gm heroin (each) from the possession of the accused.

Investigation revealed that they had come to deliver the contraband on the directions of their Pakistan-based accomplices.

A case under the NDPS Act and Arms Act was registered against the accused.
