The State government’s anti-drug enforcement drive Operation Toofan has completed 100 days, with official figures indicating significant results including a noticeable decline in serious crimes targeting women and children.

In a statement, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the number of drug-related cases increased from 9,208 to 10,301, while arrests rose from 9,947 to 11,146 in a comparison of figures from June 2, 2026 onwards with the corresponding period in 2025. In addition, 5,718 cases were registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

The seizures included 23,571.253 g of MDMA, 1,228.527 kg of ganja and 4,740.839 g of hashish oil. The total quantity of narcotics seized stood at around 1,259 kg, compared with 1,058.66 kg during the corresponding period last year, representing an increase of nearly 19%.

The Minister also stated that the total number of cases involving crimes against women and children fell from 13,631 to 13,371, marking a decline of 1.9%. Rape cases declined from 740 to 593, representing a 19.9% fall, while serious POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act cases marked a decline of 13.6% to fall from 595 to 514.

Kidnapping cases decreased from 374 to 315, while dowry deaths fell from four to one and cases involving human trafficking declined from 11 to four.

During the period, murder cases fell from 79 to 70, while culpable homicide cases declined from 29 to 22.
