147 job letters issued to farm stir victims’ kin

Chandigarh, October 5

The Department of Agriculture today issued 147 appointment letters to the family members of farmers who died during the ongoing agitation. Agriculture Minister Randeep Nabha said the letters were handed over to Cabinet ministers, who would further take them to every household and personally hand them over to the victim families.

It was the promise of the state government to give jobs to the family members of farmers who lost their lives in the agitation. The Department of Agriculture issued appointment letters in tandem with the Departments of Revenue, Education and Health. “‘One cannot compensate for the precious lives which have been lost but still the dependents of the deceased must be compensated,” he said.

Nabha said for the past more than a year, farmers had been protesting at the Delhi borders against the three farm laws. The Punjab Government had already passed a resolution against these in the Assembly, he added. — TNS
