Ludhiana, July 15

Some armed youths killed a 15-year-old boy after entering the civil hospital’s emergency here on Thursday night.

Shavan Kumar had come for medical examination after he had a fight with some youths of his locality.

His brother Sumit, whose finger was chopped in the attack, was also present in the emergency.

The assailants smashed the windows, doors and other medical equipments of the room leading to panic in the hospital.

A police post is also situated near the emergency in the hospital.

Shavan and Sumit had a fight with some youths at EWS colony here, in which both suffered injuries. The duo had come to the hospital for medical examination.

Sumit said the youths had attacked Shavan with a sword and some other sharp weapons. Despite police being present in close proximity, it failed to arrange an ambulance to shift Shavan to the CMC hospital. He said Shavan was declared brought dead on being taken to the CMC.

Had police or the civil authorities managed to arrange an ambulance for his brother in time, his life could have been saved, said Sumit.

ACP East Gurdev Singh said a case of murder was registered and raids were being conducted to nab the culprits.

After the incident, the doctors had urged the authorities to arrest all accused and ensure presence of cops in the hospital to prevent such incidents.
