Abohar, July 15.
A fraud case has surfaced in the District Excise Department office at Sriganganagar near Abohar. A case has been registered on the directions of a court, official sources said.
During the year 2022-23, the department issued a liquor shop licence in the name of a person, who had not applied for the same. This came to fore when the victim got a notice of recovery of Rs 93.72 lakh from the department.
On the complaint of Anil Bishnoi of Chak 7-LNP village, the police have registered a case against Nishan Singh of Chak 48- GG and Rajdeep Singh of Chak 2-KK village. The complainant stated there was a possibility of excise officials involvment in issuing a liquor shop license to these two persons on his name and address.
Bishnoi, a farmer, said a recovery notice issued by the District Excise Department recently demanding Rs 92.72 lakh shocked him. He went to the District Excise Office and explained that he had never applied for a liquor shop licence. The police said an investigation has been initiated into the matter.
