2-day remand for ex-MLA’s brother in rape case

Ludhiana, July 3

The police today produced Karamjit Singh Bains, brother of Lok Insaaf Party chief-cum-former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, in the court pertaining to a rape case.

The police sought five-day police remand of the accused on the pretext that he needed to be questioned to enquire about the whereabouts of the key accused in the rape case, Simarjit Bains, and five others, but the court granted only two-day remand.

In April, Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Kaur had declared former MLA Bains and six others, including Karamjit Singh, proclaimed offenders.

Simarjit’s elder brother Balwinder Bains told the media the woman had got a fake case registered against his brother and they have faith in the judiciary.

Asked if Simarjit would surrender as the Supreme Court had also denied him bail, Balwinder said yes his brother would surely surrender at the right time.

Meanwhile, the police have reportedly started the process to attach the properties and seize bank accounts of Simarjit as per the court order.
