2 die of drug overdose in Muktsar district

Two youngsters have allegedly lost their lives due to drug overdose in Muktsar district over the past two days.

Gagandeep Singh, 24, of Jhorar village was found dead at the Focal Point in the village on Sunday. Sources said he died due to consumption of ‘chitta’. The police have registered a case against 14 persons, including women, in this regard.

Also, Lovepreet Singh, 28, of Adesh Nagar here was found dead on the Bura Gujjar road on Monday. On the statement of his father Jagdev Singh, the police have booked four persons for allegedly supplying drugs. One of them had been arrested.

In the past three months, nine persons had lost their lives due to drug overdose in the district.

Dr Ranju Singla, Chief Medical Officer, Muktsar, said 19 outpatient opioid assisted treatment (OOAT) clinics were being run for addicts.

DC Vineet Kumar urged addicts to get treatment at rehab centres, adding the administration would provide financial assistance to their families.
