2 from Hoshiarpur duped of Rs 4L by their ‘relatives’ calling from abroad

Hoshiarpur: The police have registered two separate cases for allegedly duping two persons of Rs 4 lakh by calling from abroad and pretending to be relatives of the victims. Sonia Saini, a resident of Rahimpur, has lodged a complaint with Model Town Police Station that she had received a call on her mobile.

The caller, pretending to be her relative, told her that the mother of the travel agent, who had sent him abroad, was serious. So, he needs Rs 2 lakh. She deposited money in the account told by the caller. After this the accused asked her to deposit Rs 1 lakh more. Then she became suspicious and complained to the police.

Another complaint has been lodged with the Sadar police by Jasvir Singh, a resident of Mehatpur village. He told the police that he got a call from someone pretending to be his close relative, Rana. The caller demanded Rs 2 lakh to be deposited into his bank account.

He deposited the money, but after that no information was received. After investigating, the police found that the said amount was deposited in the PNB branch located in Motihari in Bihar. The police have registered a case against the account holder Brijesh Raj.
