With the CCTV grab of two of the three men involved in the RPG attack on state intelligence headquarters at Mohali on May 9 surfacing on social media, Punjab Police on Saturday said the two men are Deepak of Sonepat and Deevanshu of Faizabad.

Both were on the run. The third accused had earlier been identified as Charat Singh of Tarn Taran, who was driving the vehicle from which the RPG was fired.

Officials said gangster Naresh, along with Pakistan-based Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and Canada-based Lakhvinder Singh alias Landa planned the attack. Naresh and Rinda were also involved in several murder cases, including that of Manvinder alias Mindi Gandhi, elder brother of gangster Rupinder Gandhi.

“The CCTV footage was that from before the May 9 attack. Deepak was spotted roaming in Zirakpur with Deevanshu a day before the attack,” said an official.

Police officials said Naresh, who belongs to Haryana, was a key associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, main accused in singer Sidhu Moosewala murder case, but later both had differences.

Sources said that during questioning, Lawrence Bishnoi had said that he was not involved in the RPG attack. Sources said it was an independent operation by Naresh and Rinda.

Earlier, police had arrested six people in the case. Gangsters, terrorists, drug addicts, arms smuggler and a murder convict had come together to carry out the attack.

Those arrested were identified as Nishan Singh of Kulla village in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran; Jagdeep Singh Kang of Sector 85, Mohali; Kanwarjit Singh alias Kanwar Bath (40) of Gumtala in Amritsar; Baljinder Singh alias Rambo (41) of Patti, Tarn Taran; Baljit Kaur alias Sukhi (50) of Kot Khalsa, Amritsar, and Anant Deep Singh alias Sonu (32) of Guru Nanak Colony, Amritsar.

A Toyota Fortuner SUV and a Maruti Swift car were recovered from their possession.

Police had also questioned Mohd Nasim Alam and Mohd Sharaf Raj, residents of Auraiya district in Bihar, as they were found to be in touch with two unidentified attackers.

Landa (33), who is native of Tarn Taran and fled to Canada in 2017 is a close aide of Pakistan-based wanted gangster Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and had joined hands with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a banned terrorist outfit.

Police said a team led by ADGP Internal Security RN Dhoke was investigating the case.
