Abohar: Two women died in separate mishaps on Thursday. Suman Rani died and her husband Bhup Ram sustained injuries when their motorcycle collided with a harvesting combine near the Burjmuhar terminal on Abohar-Fazilka Road. In another case, Lila Devi (50) of Fatuhi village was run over by a train on the Abohar-Sriganganagar section while crossing the rail line. OC
Woman killed by paramour
Moga: A 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her paramour with a sharp weapon at Kishanpura Kalan village. The deceased has been identified as Sarabjit Kaur. The victim got married to Sikandar, but left him six years ago. She started living with a person named Veeru at Kishanpura Kalan along with her daughter. The post-mortem report revealed that the victim died due to deep injuries. The police have registered a murder case against Veeru. TNS
BSF nabs Pak national
Ferozepur: BSF personnel belonging to 136 Battalion have nabbed a Pakistani intruder, identified as Abbas (30), a resident of Baba Khan Jawan village of Toba Tek Singh district in Pakistan. Abbas was nabbed from an area close to border outpost of Dona Telu Mal. After the preliminary investigations, the BSF officials handed over the intruder to the police in Mamdot. No FIR was registered till the filing of this report. OC
Two held with heroin
Ferozepur: The Narcotics Control Cell has arrested two drug peddlers, identified as Kanwaljit Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, and Gautam Parik, a resident of Bikaner district of Rajasthan. Investigation Officer Angrej Singh said the police had received inputs two persons were going to deliver a consignment of heroin in the cantonment area. “A trap was laid and the accused were arrested with 5 kg of heroin and drug money of Rs 5 lakh,” said IO. A case has been registered.
