3.5 kg heroin dropped by Pakistani drone seized in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, June 30

In a joint operation, sleuths of the 136th Battalion of the BSF and the Ferozepur police seized 3.5 kg of heroin, dropped by a Pakistani drone in fields situated near the Mabboke border outpost today.

Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police Charanjit Singh said cops deputed at the Mamdot police station received information regarding the movement of a drone on the intervening night of June 28 to 29.

“The movement of the drone was reported between border pillar number 198/4 and 198/5, following which BSF troops fired 12 rounds and two ‘Ilu’ bombs. As a result, the drone was flown back,” said the SSP.

The entire area was cordoned off with the help of the 136th Battalion of the BSF,” said the SSP, adding that a joint search operation was carried out this morning.

The SSP said Balwant Singh, alias Pappu, a resident of Kalu Araiya Hithar village, informed the search team that he had spotted a packet in the adjoining fields, which belonged to Bheja Singh of the same village. He said the police retrieved a polythene bag containing 3.5 kg heroin.

Uday Pratap Singh Chauhan, Commandant, 136th Battalion, said the incident was taken up during a flag meeting with the Pakistan Rangers.

The police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
