Moga, July 7

The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Rahul Garg here on Thursday sentenced three Dera Sacha Sauda followers to three-year jail in a sacrilege case.

A fine of Rs 5,000 each was also slapped on them.

Torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found on the streets of Malke village in this district in 2015 and a case under Sections 295-A (intended to outrage religious feelings) and 295 (intent to insult the religion) of the IPC was registered against unidentified people at Samalsar police station.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police had identified the accused as Prithi Singh, a resident of Baghapurana; and Mithu Singh and Amardeep Singh, both residents of Malke village.

The SIT had got vital clues about the involvement of these Dera followers in the case during interrogation of Prithi in the Bargari sacrilege case.

Two other accused, Dera followers Dalwinder Singh and Satnam Singh, were acquitted for want of evidence.

The convicts have filed a plea before the court seeking bail, which will be taken up later in the day.
