3 from Ferozepur booked for smuggling drugs using drones

Abohar/Sriganganagar, April 14

After interrogating Gurnam Singh, his two sons and their two other accomplices, who were recently arrested by the Sriganganagar district police, a case was registered against Gurnam’s three relatives Harpal Singh Pali, alias Billa, Mukhtiar Singh Mukha, alias Mukhi, of Palla Megha village, and Gurvinder Singh Gindi of Kamalewala, Ferozepur, last night at the Anoopgarh police station.

Investigations reportedly indicated that they had contacts with smugglers from Pakistan. The accused contacted Pakistan smugglers and prepared their relatives living near the Indo-Pak border to collect and deliver the consignment.

The Ghadsana police station in-charge, Madan Lal Bishnoi, said accused Ravinder Singh Ravi, his brother Rajwinder Singh Manga, father Gurnam Singh of Chak 6-MSR village, Bhupinder Singh Bhinder and his brother Jasbir Singh Jassa of Binjaur village were remanded in custody for five days. Investigation further indicated that two of the accused persons, fearing arrest, reportedly destroyed the consignment of 4 kg of heroin by putting it in a sewage tank.

The ASP, CID (Zone), Diksha Kamra, today inspected the fields of Bhupinder Singh and Jasbir Singh, near the BSF border outpost in the Binjaur area, and the sewage tanks in their houses.

It came to fore that on the intervening night of March 4 and 5, a drone from across the border dropped 4 kg of heroin on the fields of Bhupinder Singh and Jasbir Singh. BSF jawans fired 18 rounds that night when the drone was sighted. The drone went back to Pakistan. The next day, even after searching the entire area, no packet was found. Last week, when Bhupinder and Jasbir harvested wheat crop in fields, they reportedly found four heroin packets. —
