Ludhiana/Mansa/Faridkot, June 28
Ludhiana girl Arshdeep Kaur from Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School has secured the first position in Class XII, while Mansa girl Arshpreet Kaur stood second and Faridkot’s Kulwinder Kaur secured the third position. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) declared the results today.
Didn’t expect top position

The three toppers, all from humanities stream, secured 99.4 per cent, obtaining 497 marks out of 500. The positions were, however, decided on the basis of age. Hardeep Sidhu, state media coordinator of the Education Department, said, “As per PSEB rules, when students score the same marks, the youngest one is declared the topper.”
Arshdeep is 16 years and nine months old, while Arshpreet is 17 years and three months old. Kulwinder is 17 years and nine months old.
The topper, Arshdeep Kaur, said: “Luck favoured me that I was declared the topper among three students who secured the same marks. God was by my side.”
Arshdeep aspires to become an IAS officer. “I was expecting a second or third position, but my joy knew no bound when I secured the first position. In term one exams, I was two marks short of 100 per cent,” she said.
Arshdeep’s father runs a scooter repair shop and mother is a homemaker. She thanked her parents, teachers and the Almighty for her success.
Mansa’s Arshpreet Kaur is a student of Government Secondary Smart School, Bachhoana. Kulwinder of Jaito in Faridkot district is a national-level taekwondo player. She is a student of Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaito.
