Three members of a gang involved in demanding Rs 8 lakh ransom from a city jeweller by using international numbers has been arrested.
SSP Amneet Kondal said the police got a complaint from Anoop Kumar Jain, a jeweller, that he had received messages from international numbers, threatening him with dire consequences if Rs 8 lakh was not paid. The SSP said the numbers were generated via the Internet and the messages originated from the Bhagta Bhai Ka area of Bathinda. Subsequently, Bhagta Bhai resident Akashdeep Singh was arrested yesterday. His associates — Sukhwinder Pal Singh, alias Gaggi, of Salewara Patti in Bathinda and Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan, of Bhagta Bhai Ka — were was also arrested. — OC
