Sangrur, September 3
Amid claims of improvement in health facilities, the authorities in Sangrur district have failed to start an oxygen plant which was sent by the central government under the PM Cares in the first week of June. The authorities say technical glitches have delayed its start but local BJP leaders blame lack of sincerity among officials.
CM must take note
Officials are offering baseless excuses of technical glitches, which could have been rectified within a month. The Punjab CM must look into the matter urgently. — Randeep Deol, Sangrur BJP President
“It’s really surprising that Sangrur authorities have not started the oxygen plant. Officials are offering baseless excuses of technical glitches, which could have been rectified within a month. The Punjab CM must look into the matter urgently because if the third wave of Covid comes, the plant will be of big help,” said Randeep Deol, Sangrur BJP president.
The Health Department authorities have got installed the plant at the local Civil Hospital in a newly constructed room, located on the backside of the canteen. Today,
when The Tribune correspondent visited the plant, it was locked.
“We have lost hope as claims of bringing improvement in the health system are only on paper. It seems the authorities will wake up from their slumber only after the start of the third wave ,” said Gurjant Singh, a resident of the area.
Sangrur district had the highest Covid case fatality rate of 5.3 per cent. As per the report of the Health Department, till the end of June, 859 residents had lost their lives to the virus.
Sangrur Civil Surgeon Dr Anjna Gupta said they had been working hard to improve health facilities in the district and had also sent a list of the required equipment.
“Technical glitches in a wire and other equipment have delayed the start of the oxygen plant. We have started its trial run. Hopefully, it will start working fully in the coming days,” she said.
