4 doctors against 31 posts in Jaito hospitals

Faridkot, August 6

While AAP MLA from Jaito, Amolak Singh, is facing political flak allegedly for stage-managing the state Health Minister’s visit to a particular room in Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot last week where the minister had made the Vice Chancellor of the Health University lie on a patient’s bed, residents in MLA’s home constituency want him to get the utterly poor health services in their hospitals improved.

In Jaito’s Sub-Divisional Hospital, there are only two doctors against the 17 sanctioned posts of medical officer.

Instead of taking the minister to the medical college, it would have been better had the MLA brought the minister to Jaito and urged him to improve the condition of hospitals in his constituency, said many residents of Jaito.

Not only in Jaito, in the community health centre (CHC) at Bajakhana town, a part of Jaito Assembly constituency, there are only two doctors against 14 sanctioned posts of medical officer. Two sanctioned posts of dental surgeons are also lying vacant in the hospital.

Just a doctor couple — a gynaecologist and a MBBS doctor — is taking care of all indoor, outdoor and emergency patients at CHC Bajakhana.

In Jaito hospital, 300 to 350 patients come to the OPD every day. Two doctors — a medical specialist and a MBBS — face difficulty in catering to the medical needs of these OPD patients.

For all medical emergencies and indoor admissions, the hospital is a just a referral centre.

Sanjay Kapoor, Civil Surgeon, Faridkot, said the Health Department has decided to depute a part-time ENT specialist at Jaito hospital.

It would have been better had our MLA raised his voice for hospitals in his constituency instead of creating a controversy at Faridkot medical college, said Parminder Kumar of Jaito.

Amolak Singh, MLA, claimed he had been raising the issue of hospitals in Jaito area and he was hopeful of improvement in their condition in the coming days.
