Patiala, July 21
Four members of a family were killed at Patran when the roof of their house collapsed at 6 am today. The deceased have been identified as Raju, his wife Sunita and two children Aman and Usha. Their son Vikas was miraculously saved but sustained head injuries.
Police officials said the incident took place at Dhanak Basti, Ward No. 9, on Jakhal Road, where the family of five had been living on rent for the past 10 months.
SHO Prakash Masih said the five were sleeping when the roof of the house fell on them and they were buried.
He said: “Four of the family members, Raju, his wife Sunita, along with their two children Aman and Usha, died while their 15-year-old son Vikas escaped. He sustained head injuries and was taken to the Civil Hospital, Patran. They belonged to Haryana but had come to Patran for doing labour job.”
The SHO said the area had witnessed heavy rain since last night, which could have been the reason behind the wall collapse. “The house is located near the fields,” he added.
He said the police had taken the bodies for post-mortem and also registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and started investigation.
