Some 15 Congress Members of Legislative Assembly hold a meeting in an attempt to pressure the party to drop Rana Gurjit Singh from Punjab Cabinet for his alleged involvement in a sand mining scam in the state— a development that comes ahead of a cabinet expansion.
The oath-taking ceremony for the rest of Chief Minister Charanjit Channi’s cabinet is scheduled for 4.30 pm.

A drive is currently underway to garner signatures from 20 MLAs from Doaba and Majha before a meeting with Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu in Patiala on Sunday.
Sidhu is likely to talk to Congress high-command about dropping Rana Gurjit Singh, sources said.

Already, questions are being raised about his proposed induction. Rana Gurjit Singh was forced to resign from former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s cabinet in 2018 after his name began to be linked to a mining scam in the state.
Leaders in the party say the same yardstick should all to those selected for induction into the Punjab Cabinet.
This comes after Chief Minister Charanjit Channi vowed to end corruption in the state soon after he was sworn in last week.
