Five officials chargesheeted, says minister

Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Raj Kumar Verka today said the alleged post-matric scholarship scam was being investigated in a fair and transparent manner and following preliminary reports, five officials and employees had been issued charge-sheet.

The five included Deputy Director Parminder Singh Gill, DCFA Charanjit Singh, SO Mukesh Bhatia, Superintendent Rajinder Chopra and Senior Assistant Rakesh Arora, said the Cabinet minister.

Verka said those found involved in the alleged scam would face action soon and he would personally ensure a transparent probe in.

He said the colleges that indulged in bungling of SC scholarship funds and failed to return the amount would have to face strict action.

He said he had ordered the department authorities to initiate strict action against such institutions and submit an action-taken report on a daily basis. Verka said Rs 100 crore had to be recovered from 117 erring colleges that had illegally taken the benefit under the scholarship scheme. — TNS
