The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Medchal-Malkajgiri district branch, is establishing a modern blood bank with a dedicated Thalassemia ward at Kukatpally to strengthen transfusion services for patients in need.

The facility is coming up on 1,000 square yards of government-allotted land. The site has been surveyed and demarcated, and boundary walls have been constructed. The branch is pursuing the necessary approvals for the project.

The facility, estimated to cost ₹4.5 crore, will be supported through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds and 30% assistance from the Raj Bhavan authorities. It will include a modern blood bank, medical equipment, a mobile blood collection unit and a dedicated Thalassemia ward, said IRCS, Medchal-Malkajgiri district branch chairman S.M. Rajeshwar.

He said the district branch has also proposed establishing a trauma care centre and blood bank at Shamirpet to provide emergency medical assistance to accident victims on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and those from surrounding villages. The proposed facility will come up on 0.19 guntas of land at Upparpally village allotted by the District Collector. The site has already been levelled, boundary walls constructed and a borewell provided.
