Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Anantapur (JNTU-A) signed an MoU with the A.P. State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) for use of electric cooking equipment in the University’s hostels as an alternative to LPG.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Sudarsana Rao said the MoU was signed for supply, installation, and use of electric cooking equipment in the university’s hostels.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that given the large number of students served daily at JNTU-A hostels, it was decided to implement electric cooking as an alternative to the traditional LPG-based method. This would reduce LPG consumption while enhancing energy efficiency, he added.

Usage of electric cooking minimises smoke, pollution, and excessive heat in kitchens and creates a cleaner and safer cooking environment. “This initiative would contribute to energy conservation, operational efficiency, and environmental protection,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Prof. B. Durga Prasad said the MoU holds significance as the JNTU-A had already prioritised renewable energy usage and energy conservation. By introducing electric cooking in the hostels, JNTU-A aims to set a model for sustainable cooking practices and at the same time conserves energy and reducing carbon emissions.
