Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail plea of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan in connection with the September 2025 Bareilly violence case, delivering strong observations on the controversial “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogan.The court said the slogan cannot be equated with religious slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram”, “Allahu Akbar”, “Har Har Mahadev” or “Jo Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal”, observing that those slogans express religious reverence, while the “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogan, in the court’s view, challenges the authority of law and the sovereignty and integrity of India. The court also observed that such a slogan could incite people towards violent rebellion.The case relates to violence in Bareilly in September 2025, when protesters gathered despite restrictions imposed by the local administration. The prosecution alleged that the crowd attacked police personnel, damaged public property and raised the controversial slogans.
