Malerkotla, December 19
In a veiled attack on his detractors within the party, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday, without naming anyone, said he had faced conspiracies from two former Chief Ministers in the past and now another was trying to plot against him.
“There are many who are hatching conspiracies against me. Two CMs in the past tried to finish me, but they ended up losing power, and now another is doing the same. But he too will vanish,” Sidhu announced amid cheer from area residents.
He supported the severest punishment to those involved in the sacrilege incidents. “Divisive forces are trying to create tension in the state as elections are approaching fast. I request all to be cautious. Elect only those who really want to serve the state. The sacrilege of any holy book is intolerable and persons involved in it must be hanged,” said Sidhu.

He reiterated that labourers would get at least Rs 350 a day under the urban labour employment mission in Punjab after the formation of the Congress government in 2022. Sidhu asked cops not to use any force to remove protesters, who disrupted his speech repeatedly. The protesters included unemployed and members of Zameen Prapati Sangharash Committee.
Meanwhile, former Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa, who is principal strategic adviser to the PCC chief, said Sidhu did not need the chair of PCC chief, but the Congress needed Sidhu.
“When Sidhu is contesting elections, I do not need to contest. I would gain the powers of Chief Minister next year after elections. But Sidhu needs your blessings. I request all to please pray for him. My wife Razia would contest and win with a bigger margin as we have fulfilled all poll promises,” said Mustafa. Cabinet Minister Razia Sultana said Malerkotla has got district status with the support of Sidhu.
Will consider allowing poppy husk farming
After some party men asked the government to allow the farming of poppy husk in the state to prevent the spread of drugs, Sidhu said they would look into the demand and accept it, if possible.
