Vested interests behind Brahmpura exit: SAD (S)

Amritsar, December 24

The local unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) snubbed dissident Akali leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura for rejoining the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

Addressing a press conference, SAD (Sanyukt) urban president, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Calcutta said it was wrongly being projected that more Akalis from the breakaway faction would join the Badals.

Criticising Brahmpura’s move, Calcutta said it was Brahmpura who took the initiative to part ways with the Badals following the inaction against 2015 sacrilege incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura, “Sukhbir’s anarchy” and misbehaviour.

He said Brahmpura had formed the SAD (Taksali) by associating likeminded Akali stalwarts with an aim to rejuvenate the SAD’s basic philosophy. This was followed by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and his supporters, who then jointly formed the SAD (Sanyukt) against the Badal clan.

Another leader Manjit Singh Bhoma said Brahmpura could not preserve the sanctity of the oaths that were jointly taken at Akal Takht. “Hundreds of Akalis supported Brahmpura for the sake of Panth and vowed to liberate the core Akali Dal and the SGPC from the clutches of the Badal family. But Brahmpura, for his vested interests, joined the Badals,” he said. — TNS
