Nod to Rs2K Net allowance for students in Punjab

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday clarified that the state government had responded the same day to queries raised by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on the file regarding regularisation of the services of contractual employees in Punjab, but reiterated that the Governor was not clearing the file under pressure from the BJP.

Channi on Saturday had threatened to stage a sit-in against Purohit for withholding assent to the Bill, which aims at regularising around 36,000 contractual employees.

Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, the CM said if the Governor did not clear the file by tomorrow, he along with his colleagues would again meet him.

The Cabinet today decided to waive the pending electricity bills of all “gaushalas” in the state.

Besides, the government would give Rs 5 lakh each to all “gaushalas” to set up solar systems for electricity.

Apart from clearing a scheme of government guarantee to provide one lakh government jobs, it was also decided to provide Rs 2,000 internet allowance to nearly 8.67 lakh students enrolled in colleges of higher, medical or technical education across the state due to Covid-19. The money will be credited to accounts of the students.

The CM said as per the government commitment, an additional 125 persons from the families of farmers who died during the farm agitation, had been given government jobs. As many as 170 were provided jobs earlier.

Cabinet meet: Midday meal workers’ pay hiked

  • The Cabinet approved the increase in remuneration of midday meal workers from Rs2,200 to Rs3,000 per month
  • Mehal Kalan in Barnala and Fatehgarh Churian in Gurdaspur upgraded to tehsils/ sub-divisions
  • The Cabinet also decided to waive the power dues of all “gaushalas” in the state

  • The CM told the media hockey players from the state are being given government jobs letters; team captain Manpreet Singh has been promoted to the SP rank
