BJP leaders meet Punjab Guv, reject government probe panel

Chandigarh, January 6

State BJP leaders today met Governor Banwarilal Purohit demanding the ouster of state Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa and DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya in the wake of the security breach during PM Narendra Modi’s Punjab visit on Wednesday.

Talking to mediapersons outside the Raj Bhawan, BJP state president Ashwani Sharma termed the stalling of the PM’s cavalcade a conspiracy and accused CM Charanjit Singh Channi of being the main conspirator. They rejected any probe committee formed by the state government.

Blot on democracy

The entire rank and file of the Congress is playing politics over the issue. The blockade of the PM’s convoy was not only a ‘blot’ on democracy, but also a ‘black day in the history of Punjab’. — Gajendra Shekhawat, Union minister

Claiming that the Congress was unhappy with the massive response to the Ferozepur rally, Sharma said neither the CM nor his deputy turned up to receive the Prime Minister at Bathinda. Later at a press conference, Sharma said they would expose as to how the government had sent its own people to sabotage the rally.

He played some videos of stranded buses heading towards the Ferozepur rally, claiming the police were hand in glove with protesters and it was a conspiracy hatched at the highest level in the Congress to sabotage the rally.

Sharma dubbed the incident worse than the Emergency, adding the Congress wanted to push Punjab towards militancy. — TNS
