Rana Gurjeet Singh’s son to contest as Independent

Kapurthala, January 17

Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh’s son Rana Inder Partap Singh, 41, has decided to contest as an Independent from Sultanpur Lodhi. While the minister’s home constituency is Kapurthala, his son had been seeking party ticket from adjoining Sultanpur Lodhi, which went to sitting MLA Navtej Cheema.

The minister said: “My son is a fighter. He will stand firm on his resolve. He will not leave the ground.” Targeting PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had been supporting sitting MLA Navtej Cheema, the minister said: “Raising a question mark on Channi’s continuation as the CM can prove suicidal. The issue of CM face was already settled three months ago. There is no need for further debate.” Rana Inder Partap said: “I’m not a rebel candidate. I am standing up for people who have faced oppression due to false FIRs.” —
