Abohar, April 15
The police have arrested a truck owner and his helper for allegedly fleeing with a consignment (clothes) of around Rs 1 crore.
The material was loaded in Surat (Gujrat) and was to be delivered in Punjab, but the truck owner allegedly set his truck ablaze after shifting the consignment on another vehicle.
Investigating officer Bhup Singh Saharan said truck owner Vijay Kumar, a resident of Muktsar, and helper Joga Singh of Panjpir Nagar, Abohar, have been arrested.
Joga reportedly disclosed during interrogation that Vijay was driving the truck on August 12, 2021, and he got the consignment loaded into another vehicle and set his truck on fire. The probe revealed that Vijay had sold the cloth to Gurpreet Singh, a Muktsar-based trader.
On August 15, Suresh Sharma of Surat lodged an FIR in this regard. The complainant said he had sent 197 packages (clothes) worth Rs 92.5 lakh to Punjab.
Gurpreet, who bought the consignment at the subsidised rates, sold the same through roadside counter sales in Malout and Muktsar.
