SIT report on 2015 sacrilege cases blames Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head

Chandigarh, July 2

The final investigation report of the Punjab Police on the 2015 sacrilege cases has pinned the blame on Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda and its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim as the key conspirator.

The report of the special investigation team (SIT) was made public today. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann handed over the 467-page report to some Sikh leaders who have been pursuing the matter. The delegation comprised Major Singh Pandori, Chamkaur Singh, Bhai Rupa, Resham Singh Khukhrana and Baldev Singh Joggewala. This is the first time that an official probe report has been made public in this manner.

Inspector General of Police SPS Parmar headed the five-member SIT, which was constituted on April 4 last year on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The SIT had submitted its report to DGP VK Bhawra and DGP (Intelligence) Prabodh Kumar on April 21.

The incidents related to the theft of a “bir” of Guru Granth Sahib, putting up of sacrilegious posters, and tearing and scattering of pages of the holy book at Bargari village in Faridkot in 2015.

The report named dera chief and his followers in all three cases. “It is evident from material/evidence collected by the SIT that the accused were having direct nexus with the dera management. The motive was linked with dera chief’s movie ‘MSG’,” it said.

Another key accused Mohinder Pal, alias Bittu, (later killed in the Nabha jail by other inmates) and his companions were upset due to the non-release of the movie and they thus hatched the conspiracy to take a revenge, the report said.

The other accused named in the report are Sukhjinder Singh, alias Sunny, Shakti Singh, Baljit Singh, Randeep Singh, alias Neela, Ranjit Singh, alias Bhola, Nishan Singh, Narinder Sharma and Pardeep Singh.

Three other accused — Harsh Dhuri, Pardeep Kler and Sandeep Bareta — are yet to be arrested. They have been declared proclaimed offenders.
