Even though the police and the district administration claim they are trying to curb the drug menace, 10 persons have died of drugs in the district in the past three months.
An unidentified body was found in bushes along Bura Gujjar Road here recently. The deceased was identified as Manish Singh of Adarsh Nagar here. His family claimed that the boy was a drug addict, who used to consume “chitta”. Kukku Singh, father of the deceased, has lodged a complaint against five persons and sought action against them for supplying drugs.
Earlier too, on May 30, a youngster of Chak Duhewala village was found dead at the same location. Besides, a 28-year-old youth, who allegedly consumed “chitta”, was also found dead on this road on June 28.
A 24-year-old youth of Jhorar village here allegedly died due to drugs on June 26. Similarly, a youngster of Mandi Killianwali allegedly died of drugs on May 28. A youngster of Chak Sherewala village allegedly died of drugs on May 22.
A resident of Raniwala village too died of drugs on May 4. A youngster of Jhorar village allegedly died of a drug overdose on April 30. A youngster of Harjinder Nagar in Malout town allegedly lost his life due to drugs on April 29. A youngster of Baba Deep Singh Nagar in Malout town too allegedly died of drugs April 28.
