Build Haryana Vidhan Sabha outside Chandigarh limits, says Congress

Chandigarh, July 10

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Partap Singh Bajwa has hit out at the Centre for deciding to give land to Haryana for a new Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh.

“Chandigarh is an inalienable part of Punjab. Haryana is most welcome to build a new Vidhan Sabha outside the UT limits,” he said in a statement.

The Congress leader also hit out at CM Mann for demanding land for the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

“This will weaken Punjab’s right over Chandigarh. One must not forget that UNESCO world heritage buildings built by Le Corbusier belongs to Punjab,” he noted.

“It seems the Chief Minister has outsourced his Twitter account to Delhi, as those drafting his tweets seem to have no understanding of Punjab’s position with respect to Chandigarh,” added Bajwa.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has convened an emergency meeting of his party’s core committee on Tuesday to deliberate on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s statement demanding land for the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

“The CM is hell bent on surrendering Punjab’s inalienable right over Chandigarh. At the Tuesday’s meeting, the SAD will chart the further course of action to safeguard the interests of the state,” he said. Sukhbir described the CM’s surrender on Chandigarh as a “dangerous development”.
