Cong workers protest Sonia’s ED questioning

Chandigarh, July 21

Thousands of Congress workers today protested against the questioning of their party president Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper.

Despite heavy rain, a large number of activists reached Congress Bhawan to march towards the Punjab Raj Bhawan. The police had to use water cannons to disperse the agitating party activists.

The protest was led by Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa. Warring said: “This fight is not of Congress president Sonia Gandhi alone, but of every citizen who supports democracy and liberty.”

He also cautioned Aam Aadmi Party in the state to stop victimising Congress leaders and workers. “We do not like to threaten people by keeping diaries. We know how to defend ourselves,” he said.

Bajwa condemned the Centre for trying to intimidate the Congress leadership. He said the Central Government knows that nothing would come out of this case, but it wants to create a false perception. He said earlier, the Enforcement Directorate had questioned Rahul Gandhi for five days for around 10 hours daily.
