Gurdaspur, July 24

About 45 per cent of the inmates lodged in Central Jail here have failed the dope test. Civil Surgeon Dr Harbhajan Singh Mandy said the Civil Hospital was asked to provide staff for checking inmates for drugs.

He added 10 laboratory assistants and two pathologists were dispatched to the prison.

In all, 997 inmates were tested and 425 of them failed the dope test. Jail Superintendent Rajinder Singh Hundal confirmed the development.
