Fatehgarh Sahib, July 25

The bodies of a woman and her 19-year-old daughter, who had gone missing from Sirhind, were fished out from from Bhakra canal near Nangal. The victims have been identified as Jaspal Kaur and her daughter Manjit Kaur. The duo had their hands tied. Fatehgarh Sahib SHO Sandeep Singh said prima facie it seemed to be a case of suicide.

However, son of the victim suspected a foul play and alleged that his mother had illicit relation with Mandeep Singh (a tempo driver) of Longomajri village. He said Mandeep used to visit their house frequently.

The SHO said on July 19, Jaspal called her son and told him that she was going to Bassi Pathana with her daughter. A missing complaint was lodged with the Fatehgarh Sahib police on July 21, he said.

Meanwhile, the police have recovered a diary from the victim’s residence and seized her son’s cellphone as well. The SHO said they had registered a case against Mandeep under relevant sections of the IPC.
