500 litres of spurious fungicide confiscated in Faridkot
Faridkot, August 1
The police claimed to have seized over 500 litres of spurious fungicide from a truck in Faridkot and arrested two persons.
Those nabbed have been identified as Krishan Kumar of Jeeda village and Gursewak Singh of Bathinda district. Two others booked include Jaswinder Singh and Bakhshish Singh of Bathinda.
The adulterated fungicide was being sold for anywhere between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,800 per litre in the retail market. It was manufactured by a Gujarat-based pesticide firm.
“The combination of azoxystrobin and tebuconazole are in high demand as it is used to control fungus in the paddy crop,” said sources in the Agriculture Department.
Cops claimed the pesticide company didn’t have a licence to sell or manufacture its produce in the state.
The police have booked the accused under Section 29 (1) C of the Insecticides Act and Section 420 of the IPC.
