Village land allocation to LPU: Sukhpal Singh Khaira seeks VB probe
Jalandhar, August 3
Congress Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira today wrote to CM Bhagwant Mann seeking a time-bound vigilance inquiry into the alleged illegalities in an exchange deed and the alleged construction of multistoried building by Lovely Professional University (LPU) on 13.25 acres of panchayat land at a village in Phagwara.
Khaira dared the CM to get the matter probed against LPU, whose Chancellor Ashok Mittal happens to be Rajya Sabha member from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Khaira alleged the university illegally occupied approximately 13 acres of prime panchayat land belonging to Chaheru and Nanak Nagri villages in Phagwara worth Rs 100 crores in 2012.
Charges baseless: LPU
Refuting the allegations leveled by Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira, Lovely Professional University vice president Aman Mittal said: “The allegations against LPU are presented by distorting the real facts. The Chaheru land exchange had been approved by then Punjab Government by carrying out the process as per law in a span of 8-9 years. The land has been exchanged by Chehru and not by Nanak Nagri. Even Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed all the petitions filed by the Nanak Nagri panchayat. All these allegations are baseless.”
Khaira said Gram Sabha Nanak Nagri, which was earlier part of Gram Sabha Chaheru, was separately constituted in 1998. The New Sabha area for Nanak Nagri became entitled to proportionate land and other assets held by Chehru. “When the process of distribution of the land was going on, the prime land belonging to Nanak Nagri was handed over to the education trust in exchange for poor land. This was done without even informing the Nanak Nagri. The then Governor granted the sanction for exchange of the land in July 2016. Two borewells on the land have now vanished and a helipad has been constructed there.”
