AAP: Congress, SAD never raised Chandigarh issue with Centre

Chandigarh, July 12

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today alleged that both the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) never raised the issue of Chandigarh before the Centre while remaining in power and now they were doing ‘cheap politics’ over it.

Party’s spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said the SAD-BJP and the Congress governments never advocated for the rights of Punjab even though the Akalis ruled Punjab for about 20 years

and the Congress for 28

years. Now for the past few days, the Opposition is raking up the issue of Chandigarh just to score brownie points before the public by issuing scurrilous statements against the ruling AAP.

Kang further said Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and the city was built on the land of Punjab to make it the capital of the state. The AAP won’t let Punjab’s authority over Chandigarh get diluted at any cost, he added.
