Jalandhar, July 24
The tiff between the civil administration and AAP’s Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural, which had started since Friday over the latter’s move to accuse officials of corruption and nepotism while going live on his Facebook page, finally got resolved on Sunday afternoon.
The MLA had apologised to the officials for his act in a meeting convened on the government orders for both sides, a video recording of which was shared to the media this evening. The issue is learnt to have got resolved amid huge pressure from the government, which perhaps realised the sensitivity of the matter, as it came into power just six months back.
Sources said that the CMO had asked Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Jaspreet Singh to mediate between the DC office employees and the AAP MLA, who came along with his fellow legislator Raman Arora. Earlier in the day, Aman Arora also said the issue would be handled by the CM. Both legislature and executive are important arms of the government and they have to work in sync, he said.
During the meeting, the employees vent out their ire against the AAP leaders and said that they could not work in such an environment. The tempers flared so much that the employees union leaders, who came from across Punjab, even reportedly got up from meeting once and raised slogans against the state government.
The members of the Punjab State District (DC) Office Employees Association led by Pawan Kumar Verma had on Friday evening announced to hold indefinite strike from Monday onwards. The Joint Action Committee president Sukhjit Singh and general secretary Tejinder SIngh had on Saturday announced that that they would not only go on indefinite strike from Monday but also hold a demonstration against the MLA taking out a bike rally in the city while carrying the MLA’s effigy, which they would burn outside the DC office.
Today, the Punjab Civil Service Officers Association had also announced to hold a black badge protest from Monday since one of the officials whom the MLA had accused on camera was ADC (G) Major Amit Sareen, a PCS officer.
Finally, things got settled and in the evening, a video message of the MLA was released wherein he said he never meant to humiliate the officials and that he simply wanted to expose certain touts. The employees too announced to withdraw their protests scheduled on Monday.
