After Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Jalandhar West Sheetal Angural on Friday evening went to the district administrative office and tried to pull up staff and officials going live of his Facebook page, the entire staff of the complex announced to go on indefinite strike from Monday onwards.
Via his FB page, the MLA levelled allegations of corruption against ADC (G) Major Amit Sareen, a woman superintendent and the staff of the Secretary RTA but all of them took on against the MLA for trying to harass them unduly while on duty. The ADC, against whom the MLA levelled allegations of quickly clearing a complaint matter against a travel agent, reacted sharply saying that “a genuine agent was being wrongly victimised. A show cause notice against him had been withdrawn only after scrutinising his entire record”.
As the MLA and his supporters alleged that the ADC had cleared his file on his off day, the ADC said that it was done on a working day while also taking on the MLA saying, “When we clear all the backlog of Suwidha Centre on Saturdays, do all VIP duties even on holidays and even the courts take up cases in the midnight, such accusations are actually a non-issue”. The entire incident happened in the office of Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh.
The ADC later even got released a video and issued a press release to clear the air.
District President of the union Pawan Kumar Verma and general secretary Jagdish Chander Saluja of The Punjab State Distt (DC) Office Employees Association also issued a memorandum wherein they condemned today’s action by the MLA.
“The entire episode has led to spoiling of our image and we all feel insecure. If the MLA had any issues with us, we were there to resolve the matter but his attitude was not right. He should not be going live without first giving us a hearing and directly levelling corruption allegations against us. He could have checked all record and manuals first. If he still felt unconvinced, then he could have got a complaint lodged against us with the Deputy Commissioner or even the Divisional Commissioner”, they alleged.
Meanwhile, Angural levelled charges of bribery against the women superintendent. He also said that the elderly and other people from his constituency were being harassed unduly by the staff and made to make repeated rounds to their offices. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had earlier urged all the MLAs not to embarrass employees in any such manner.
