Abohar, April 20
An 18-year-old youth, who reportedly belonged to the Dhanak (SC) community and worked as a barber at Khuiyansarwer, was allegedly beaten up and taken hostage on Wednesday afternoon by some residents of Daulatpura village. The video of the incident went viral on the social media.
On coming to know about the incident, family members of the victim rescued him from a house. He was admitted to a government hospital here. A police team reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the victim.
The injured, Vinod Kumar, said he ran a barber shop at Khuiyansarwer. When he was returning to his house along with his friend Raju, four bike-borne youths caught hold of him and started thrashing him near the PSPCL station. The bikers took him to Daulatpura where two girls were called to beat him up. Vinod said his relatives later reached the spot and got him released from the clutches of the accused who had also tried to force him to drink urine. Allegations of eve-teasing were reportedly made by the victim’s side and the accused against each other. Vinod’s parents said if the police did not take strict action against the culprits, then they will approach the SC/ST commission to seek justice. —
