Days after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) announced Dr Mohinder Rinwa its candidate from the Abohar constituency for the 2022 Assembly elections, all circle presidents of the party here skipped his meeting with mediapersons.
Several local SAD leaders are upset at new halqa incharge Rajinder Deepa, a former Panjab University senator, not getting the opportunity from Abohar, despite party president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s OSD reported assurance. The leaders said they arranged public meetings for Deepa and abstained from Rinwa’s events in rural and urban areas.
Sukhbir on May 30 paid obeisance to Arora community founder Arut ji Maharaj on latter’s birth anniversary in the presence of Deepa, giving rise to speculation of his candidature. An official release of the local SAD unit said no party could ignore the Arora community while choosing its candidate. The BJP is expected to field sitting MLA Arun Narang to re-contest the election despite opposition thrown by farmer unions. — OC
