Act fast against guilty, Sukhbir tells Centre

Chandigarh, October 5

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the central government should not allow any delay in proceeding against the murderers of innocent farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri.

Scrap acts

The Centre should repeal the farm laws as quickly as possible. It is needed to contain unrest and ensure no more lives are lost. — Sukhbir Badal, SAD Chief

The party expressed the resolve after a meeting of its core committee here which was presided over by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who again urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the three agriculture laws immediately.

The core committee mourned the death of farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri by observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect. It expressed shock that no concrete action had been initiated against those responsible for the Lakhimpur incident. It also demanded a judicial probe into the entire incident, including inflammatory speeches by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra. It also condemned the Uttar Pradesh Government for stopping a SAD delegation from proceeding towards Lakhimpur Kheri. The core committee also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi of interfering in the internal affairs of the Sikh community. It alleged the AAP government was preventing the constitution of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on one ground or another despite the fact that the SAD had won an absolute majority.

He said it was shocking how a ground was prepared to deny the co-option of Manjinder Singh Sirsa to the DSGMC as a nominee of the Shiromani Committee. He said the party would not tolerate this direct interference. — TNS
