Activist Nodeep Kaur: Punjab Women’s panel seeks Sonepat SSP’s report

On the appeal of Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary to the National Commission for Women (NCW) for the release of Mazdoor Adhikar Sangathan activist Nodeep Kaur, the Punjab State Women Commission today sought status report from the Sonepat SSP by February 15.

Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati said Nodeep Kaur of Giadarh village in Muktsar district was arrested on January 12 after she had participated in the farmer’s protests at Kundli border in Haryana.

She said through a written communiqueacute;, the Sonepat SSP had been directed to get the case investigated by a senior officer. “The SSP has been asked to submit a detailed investigation report within five days i.e. by February 15,” she added.

Gulati said after receiving the report, the commission would take further action. Earlier, Chaudhary had urged the NCW to intervene for early release of Nodeep. The minister said the government would provide legal assistance to Nodeep and urged the NCW to direct Haryana to arrange a meeting of a Punjab State Women’s Commission delegation with Nodeep. — TNS
