A month after the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) result controversy, many students have been alleging a goof-up in the paper evaluation of the Punjab State Talent Search Exam (PSTSE), conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The test was conducted in January and the revised result of it was released on Tuesday.

The SCERT had revised and amended the PSTSE result after a lot of hue and cry by students, like the NTSE result was revised last month. Earlier, when the NTSE and PSTSE results were declared in the last week of July, many students had claimed their final score did not match with the score they had calculated from their copy of the OMR (optical marking response) sheets.

Though the SCERT has revised the result after it received several complaints from the students, the council denied giving the benefit of revised result to all students as many of them could not fill the OMR sheet correctly due to lack of knowledge.

The authorities in the SCERT said due to negligence on the part of many field invigilators and the school teaching staff, several students lacked adequate knowledge to fill the OMR sheets. The invigilators in many examination halls failed to explain the students how to mark their responses on the sheets and thus their responses could not be evaluated in scanners.

While the NTSE is conducted for Class X students, the PSTSE is for Class VIII students to get a scholarship. A total of 500 students are given scholarship on the basis of their PSTSE score.

‘Staff negligence’

The SCERT authorities said due to negligence on the part of many field invigilators and the school teaching staff, several students lacked adequate knowledge to fill the OMR sheets. Thus, their responses could not be evaluated in scanners.
