Agnipath: Peaceful protests in Talwara, Phillaur

Jalandhar, June 17

Representatives of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Naujawan Sabha on Friday organised peaceful protests at Begumpur village in Phillaur and Talwara in Hoshiarpur against the Agnipath scheme.

On the call of president Manjinder Singh Dhesi, general secretary Dharminder Singh and finance secretary Harmeet Singh Dawood, the protesters blocked Gian Singh Chowk in Talwara, affecting traffic for nearly 30 minutes.

They also held a march and raised slogans against the Centre and its plan to launch the scheme. At Begumpur village in Phillaur, the members of the sabha burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi.

Tomorrow, a bigger protest is likely to be held near Jalandhar Cantonment. An open invitation is doing the rounds among aspirants who have been taking training from various academies for Army recruitment. They have all planned to gather outside the PAP Complex or Rama Mandi to build pressure on the Centre for rollback.
