Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Sukhbir Badal for special girdawari

Muktsar, July 17

A day after SAD chief Sukhbir Badal visited some waterlogged villages in the district, PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring also visited some areas today. Both have demanded special girdawari from the state to assess the damage caused to the standing crops due to rain and compensate the farmers at the earliest.

Warring said the state government should give at least Rs 35,000 per acre as compensation to the farmers. “I have visited some villages and the farmers have told me that the damage was quite extensive, thus no crop can be sown again at this stage. Further, the state government must speed up the process to drain out the water from fields and residential areas,” he said.

Sukhbir had yesterday said at some places the damage caused to the crops was more than 70%. So the farmers should be given partial financial relief immediately. He had also visited Sakkanwali village, where the moong crop of a farmer failed due alleged spurious quality of seeds.

Meanwhile, the situation was worrisome at some villages of the district. In some villages, the residents claimed that no one from the district administration had come to provide any kind of help to them so far.
